This past weekend, the sixth annual BedStuy Walls Mural Festival once again transformed Lexington Avenue near Stuyvesant Avenue and surrounding streets into a spirited, vibrant open-air gallery that engaged the entire community. Founded and curated by Miki Mu and Frankie Velez, this year’s festival brought together dozens of women artists for its first all-female lineup. The mural featured above was painted by the Miami-based Peruvian-American artist Diana Contreras aka DidiRok. Under the curatorial direction of Jeff Beler, the walls on Washington Avenue off Clark Place have once again been transformed. Celebrating pop culture anniversaries through a range of styles and subjects, the new murals brim with whimsy and charm.
